Feeling the heat more than usual?
As global warming intensifies, Singapore, a small country at the equator, feels its effects immediately.
Co-designed with Mr Huang, a retired contractor, and Mr Tan, an Ironman triathlete, this one-day library programme shared insights on adapting to climate change through two structures – our buildings and our bodies.
The beginning of our journey, discovering the neighbourhood and hearing from the seniors
Speculating houses for the future
Drawing from his experience as a retired contractor, Mr Huang shared how early HDB estates were designed with airflow and thermal comfort in mind, reflecting traditional kampongs.
Building on these insights, programme participants explored materials, layouts, and design features in response to a warming climate.
Our bodily structures
Adaptation is not only about the spaces we inhabit but also about how we care for our bodies.
Mr Tan, an Ironman triathlete, led a sharing session on maintaining physical health in a changing climate. Through simple exercises, participants explored how movement and fitness help build resilience to rising temperatures.
Special thanks to Mr Huang, Mr Tan, Wendy Chua, Hack Kopitiam, and the National Library Board for making this programme possible.
